Brief Overview
“Dojang” is a Korean term that means “place of training and meditation.” Traditional Martial Arts Institute - The Dojang has a mission to (a) provide martial arts instruction consistent with the teachings of my original instructor, Grandmaster Roy Kurban (Traditional Taekwondo), followed by Grandmaster Steve Fisher (Shorin-Ryu Karate), while honoring the Korean martial art of Taekwondo with its comprehensive focus on body, mind and spirit; and (b) perform interdisciplinary research on the impact and long-term benefits from participation in this type of training.
Ronin is an ancient, traditional Japanese term that mean "masterless warrior," meaning our school does not serve any individual person, organization, or style. Our goal is only to seek and teach a means of achieving and defending Goodness in our lives.
Our Style & Logo: Owl represents Wisdom; Kanji represents Budo Ai (Way of the Loving Warrior). We define Love as being expressed in more than one manner, with all founded in Goodness – Discipline, Compassion, Intolerance, Benevolence.
The Dojang is the separate self-defense division of TMAI teaching Budo Ai (The Way of the Loving Warrior) our hybrid style of Traditional Taekwondo heavily influence by Okinawan Shorin-Ryu karate, specifically focusing on Self-Defense, Fitness Training, and Life Coaching. In our training, Budo Ai places emphasis on the "seeking of Goodness" that is the mission of TMAI. Our school offers traditional martial arts training, which focuses on physical training (The Body) including techniques and katas (e.g., rehearsed forms that include blocks and punches). Additionally, educational and character development (The Mind) training will be included in the regular curriculum. The educational training will be fundamentally guide by the Five Tenants of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. Our training is continually supplemented with positive reinforcement and a "never-quit" attitude (The Spirit), which is evidenced by the positive energy and approach to teaching by each of the instructors.
